As an editor...

I improve the quality of others’ work. Aided by my emphasis on clarity, consistency, and correctness, authors relay information in useful ways, effectively eliminating distractions and commanding their readers’ attention.

Broad Forum Event Program

I worked in coordination with a graphic designer when proofreading this event program. I used the basic version of Adobe Reader to make comments requesting changes, which the designer then implemented. To help organize the numerous small changes, I color-coded the different types of alterations and included the key in an email to her.

Business College Online Style Guide

This style guide was created by the Broad College of Business’s communications department and put on the college’s website for staff to reference. In addition to copyediting the piece for consistency, clarity, and correctness, I did developmental editing to ensure that the organization was logical and concepts were fully explained. I used my experiences as the department's writer to make sure entries incorporated instructions for all major topics staff may have questions about.

Faculty Newsletter

The Broad College produces a weekly electronic newsletter for faculty and staff that is sent by email and later posted online to increase readership, making it accessible to students and alumni. In editing this, I checked facts, maintained in-house style, and revised  for clarity.

Tom's Christian Tours Business Letter/Form and Memo to the Author

The new owner of a travel agency requested an updated, more user-friendly version of a letter and form that had been sent to clients for years. The revisions and author’s memo reflect my ability to fact-check, balance an audience’s and author’s needs, cite evidence to back up my suggestions, and use a respectful, yet authoritative, tone.

Fork in the Road and Trailer Park'd Brochure

A team and I created this brochure, which was put in circulation and has information about both a local diner and a food truck. As assistant project manager, my role was to generate ideas and content, maintain communication between team members and clients, and serve as the final quality control.
